Compare the2025 BMW X6VS 2026 Genesis GV70

The BMW X6 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GV70 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The X6 has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The GV70 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

With its standard Active Pedestrian Protection, the BMW X6 is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Genesis GV70, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the BMW X6 achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Genesis GV70 has not been tested.

The X6 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GV70 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the X6 and the GV70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The BMW X6 weighs 419 to 1025 pounds more than the Genesis GV70. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The X6’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GV70’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 61 percent more BMW dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X6’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis With 10 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks BMW higher than Genesis.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 6 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The X6 xDrive40i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 75 more horsepower (375 vs. 300) and 87 lbs.-ft. more torque (398 vs. 311) than the GV70’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The X6 xDrive40i’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 7 lbs.-ft. more torque (398 vs. 391) than the GV70’s optional 3.5 turbo V6. The X6 M60i xDrive’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 148 more horsepower (523 vs. 375) and 162 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 391) than the GV70’s optional 3.5 turbo V6.

On the EPA test cycle the X6 gets better mileage than the GV70:

Regenerative brakes improve the X6’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV70 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The X6 has 4.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the GV70 (21.9 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the X6 M60i xDrive M Sport’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GV70:

For better traction, the X6 has larger standard tires than the GV70 (275/45R20 vs. 235/55R19). The X6’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GV70 (F:275/40R21 & R:315/35R21 vs. 255/40R21).

The X6’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GV70’s standard 55 series tires. The X6’s optional 275/35R22 front and 315/30R22 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the GV70 Sport Prestige’s 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the X6 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the GV70. The X6’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels on the GV70 Sport Prestige.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the X6 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The GV70 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The X6 M60i offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The GV70 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The X6 M60i xDrive offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Genesis doesn’t offer an active suspension on the GV70.

The X6 has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GV70 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The X6 has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the X6’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the GV70 (117.1 inches vs. 113.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the X6 is 1.5 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the GV70.

The X6’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50.6% to 49.4%) than the GV70’s (52% to 48%). This gives the X6 more stable handling and braking.

For greater off-road capability the X6 has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the GV70 (8.5 vs. 7.3 inches), allowing the X6 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The front grille of the X6 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The GV70 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The X6 has .9 inches more front shoulder room and .8 inches more rear shoulder room than the GV70.

The X6 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the GV70 with its rear seat folded (59.6 vs. 56.9 cubic feet).

Optional Trailer Stabilization Control on the X6 uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV70 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The X6 offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The GV70 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the GV70 Select/Advanced/Prestige, the X6 M60i has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the X6 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV70 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The X6’s standard Comfort Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the GV70 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the X6 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GV70 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the X6 offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The GV70 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The X6 also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The BMW X6 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the GV70 Select/Advanced/Prestige.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the BMW X6 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the GV70 Select/Advanced/Prestige offers wireless charging.
