Compare the2026 BMW X6VS 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe

The BMW X6 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The X6 has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

With its standard Active Pedestrian Protection, the BMW X6 is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Genesis GV80 Coupe, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

Compared to metal, the X6’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis GV80 Coupe has a metal gas tank.

Both the X6 and the GV80 Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The X6’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GV80 Coupe’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 61 percent more BMW dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X6’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the X6 first among upper midsize premium suvs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The GV80 Coupe isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in long-term dependability. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Genesis is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 6 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The X6 xDrive40i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 7 lbs.-ft. more torque (398 vs. 391) than the GV80 3.5T Coupe’s standard 3.5 turbo V6. The X6 M60i xDrive’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 114 more horsepower (523 vs. 409) and 148 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 405) than the GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger’s standard 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid.

On the EPA test cycle the X6 gets better mileage than the GV80 Coupe:

Regenerative brakes improve the X6’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

For better stopping power the X6 M60i xDrive M Sport’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the GV80 Coupe:

For better traction, the X6 has larger standard tires than the GV80 Coupe (275/45R20 vs. 265/50R20). The X6’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GV80 Coupe (F:275/40R21 & R:315/35R21 vs. 265/50R20).

The X6’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GV80 Coupe’s standard 50 series tires. The X6’s optional 275/35R22 front and 315/30R22 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the GV80 Coupe 3.5 e-Supercharger’s 40 series tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the X6 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The X6 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GV80 Coupe; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The X6 M60i offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The X6 M60i xDrive offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Genesis doesn’t offer an active suspension on the GV80 Coupe.

The X6 has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For greater off-road capability the X6 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the GV80 Coupe (8.5 vs. 8.1 inches), allowing the X6 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The X6 has 4.7 inches more front hip room and 4.5 inches more rear hip room than the GV80 Coupe.

Maximum trailer towing in the Genesis GV80 Coupe is limited to 6000 pounds. The X6 offers up to a 7209 lbs. towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stabilization Control on the X6 uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the GV80 Coupe, the X6 M60i has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the X6 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV80 Coupe can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the X6 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the X6 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer cornering lights. The X6 also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.
