The i5’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW i5 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The i5’s standard pretensioning seatbelts also sense rear collisions and remove slack from the front seatbelts to help protect the occupants from whiplash and other injuries. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The i5 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the i5 and the Ioniq 6 N have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The i5’s optional 285/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ioniq 6 N’s 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the i5 offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Ioniq 6 N’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The i5 M60 offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The i5 M60 offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Hyundai doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Ioniq 6 N.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the i5’s wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than on the Ioniq 6 N (117.9 inches vs. 116.7 inches).

For better maneuverability, the i5 eDrive40’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the Ioniq 6 N’s (38.4 feet vs. 40.4 feet). The i5 M60 xDrive’s turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the Ioniq 6 N’s (39 feet vs. 40.4 feet).

The i5 has a much larger trunk than the Ioniq 6 N (17.3 vs. 10.7 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the i5 offers cargo security. The Ioniq 6 N’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the i5. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

A Condition-Based Service Display is standard on the i5 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for brake fluid replacement and vehicle inspections based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Hyundai doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Ioniq 6 N.

The i5 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

When two different drivers share the i5, the memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer a memory system.

The i5’s standard Comfort Exit raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The i5 offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, warning, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The i5’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ioniq 6 N’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The i5’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Ioniq 6 N’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

If the windows are left open on the i5 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Ioniq 6 N can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The i5’s standard Comfort Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear doors.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The i5’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the Ioniq 6 N’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the i5 offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer cornering lights. The i5 also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are optional in the i5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The i5’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Ioniq 6 N’s power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

The i5’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ioniq 6 N has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the i5 and the Ioniq 6 N have standard heated front seats. The i5 also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Ioniq 6 N.

The i5 offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Ioniq 6 N.

The i5’s Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote Control Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Ioniq 6 N doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
